My view

Welcome to 'Bird's Eye View'!

When I was 18 my father handed me a Nikon and told me to get in the car. We drove through sleepy little Iowa towns and down winding gravel roads. He started me on what will be a life long journey of seeing the world through the lens of my camera.

To me photography is an art. The art of capturing a moment or a natural expression is what I love to do. I will give you direction and then find your personality within that pose.

What I see through my lens is no different than what you see every day - the only difference is I have the ability to stop time and provide you with those memories.

old friends

Before my parents recent move they had a garage sale and my father sold all of his darkroom equipment. although this breaks my heart because those were memories that I had with him, I still have my memories - and I never really would have put a dark room in my basement-- I have one on my computer now.

He sold boxes ad boxes and boxes of equipment.

I have been asking him for years to send me my negatives that we developed together in that darkroom - but they were locked in a drawer and the key was lost.

After he sold all the darkroom things, and they were packing up the photos to send to me he thought he better include the negatives I have been asking for forever.

He drilled the lock open and what did he find?

Well, that is a lie. He found a lot of pictures, but not my negatives.

So, luckily the person that bought his darkroom items left his email address -- and my father emailed to ask if my negatives were among the items.... and they were.

Today-- they came. Finally.... and I was able to reunited with some old friends:

So many memories wrapped up in each of the negative that I scan. Like sitting down with a good friend over a cup of coffee for a long visit.

I remember taking each of these photos....

... and it was like yesterday -- but really, it was about 12 years ago.

my darling

I have been deemed the family archivist by my parents. Really they are moving and did not want to lug our entire family history with them.

Friday night my Niece arrived for a visit, and along with her a load of boxes. In them-- my families memories.

My grandmother recently passed away, my grandfather four years prior - and I was anxious to get my hands on photos of them.

Little did I know what awaited me.

Last night at 12:30 am I called my father in tears. I had just run across these:

This was written on the back of the above photo.

These were exchanged right after they were married, she was in Michigan and he was in the service in Texas.

I thought it was a toy and almost picked it up....

I may have had a heart attack if I had touched it and it took off. Yeesh! I should have put something beside it as reference, but it is about 4 inches long!
